RITMÅBO 01 MON Mar 1st 2010 at 7 PM Turku Area Music School (TSMO) Concert Space Max Pollak (New York) tap dance/body percussion Jussi Lindroos (Turku/Åbo) tap Manuel Dunkel sax Sid Hille piano The performers of the first RitmÅbo evening included Max Pollak (New York/Austria), a rhythm tap dancer specialiced in body percussion and Afro-Cuban dance and music, tap dancer Jussi Lindroos (Åbo), saxophonist Manuel Dunkel and pianist Sid Hille. Max Pollak, one of the most interesting names in the rhythm tap scene today, fuses Afro-Cuban folklore with Afro-American rhythm tap and body percussion. Pollak has been seen in many collaborations among other Heather Cornell's renowned Manhattan Tap working with Ray Brown, Cool Heat - Urban Beat, TrioNada and Paul Carlon Octet. Rumba Tap, his own group, has performed among other at the Jacob's Pillow dance festival in USA. In Finland Pollak has visited as a guest artist at the international Feet Beat Tap Festival and at the Kuopio Dance Festival. Manuel Dunkel and Sid Hille are know as one of the leading characters in Finnish jazz scene. Among other projects they play together in Platypus Ensemble directed by Sid Hille. Jussi Lindroos, a tap dancer from Turku, has performed successfully both in Finland and abroad. His recent projects include Metropolitan Moods, a collaboration with Jussi Fredrisksson Trio. RITMÅBO 02 MON Oct 25th 2010 at 7 PM Turun seudun musiikkiopiston konserttisali Heather Cornell (New York) tap/sand dance Jussi Lindroos (Turku/Åbo) tap Jussi Fredriksson piano Ville Herrala bass In the second RitmÅbo evening the guests included tap and sand dancer Heather Cornell (New York/Canada), tap dancer Jussi Lindroos, pianist Jussi Fredriksson and bass player Ville Herrala. Heather Cornell (New York/Canada) has influenced the international tap scene for many decades as an innovative artist and developper. The artistic director and choreographer of the renowed Manhattan Tap has worked among others the bass icon Ray Brown, Keith Terry's Crosspulse and jazz drummer Lewis Nash. Cornell is internationally known as one of the pioneers of concert tap and she calls herself a physical musician. Dance magazine has described her choreography as visual music. Her latest collaboration is "Finding Synesthesia", a work commissioned by the London Jazz Festival, that she has created with pianist and composer Andy Milne. Cornell also choreographed the Tony nominated "The Play what I wrote" for Broadway. In Finland Cornell has been previously seen at the International Feet Beat Tap Festival. Jussi Fredriksson and Ville Herrala, originally from Turku, are successful and respected young generation jazz musicians in the Finnish jazz scene. They have played together in Jussi Fredriksson's trio and in Reactor-5 band. Fredriksson in known as a skillful composer, who has studied both jazz and also classical music. He has also played in UMO in Finland. Herrala is a respected jazz bassist and has played with many esteemed musicians including Jukka Perko, Piirpauke and U-Street All Stars. RITMABO 03 Sat Jul 31st 2011 Barcelona Tap On Barcelona Festival, Centro Cultural de Sants The third RitmÅbo was seen as a number within the Tap Masters Gala Concert in Tap On Barcelona festival in Spain. The performance was a collaboration of Jussi Lindroos, the gala concert's trio and the audience at the at the event.
